Fun and Vibrant Theatre

Theatre and Music

A number of local theatre companies operate on the Mendocino Coast, and most weekends there is at least one or two shows going on within a half hour of the Guesthouse. Movie theatres can also be found south in Point Arena and north in Fort Bragg, for more mainstream fare.

Depending on the timing, you might also find concerts at local establishments, opera put on by one of the multiple local opera companies, and even the world-famous Mendocino Music Festival.

Activities

There’s a lot to see on the Mendocino Coast, no matter where your interests might lie. If you’re a history buff, the historic lighthouses at Point Arena and Point Cabrillo (near Mendocino) are wonderful attractions. The Kelley House, Ford House, and Guest House all offer museums to help you learn a bit more about the local history.

If you’re a birder, there are many protected parks which are home to a wide range of species. Local birding associations have information available, and with a little bit of planning you could join an outing to see what you can find. The local Audubon Society even does regular pelagic trips, looking at some of the fascinating ocean birds that grace our coastline.

Sport Activities

Our great outdoors are truly great, and what better way to enjoy them than on horseback, on a bike, or in a canoe or kayak. A wide range of businesses offer packages that cater to everyone’s needs, and can get you out for a day alone, with a group, or on a family outing that will create some lifelong memories.

There are local tennis courts and golf courses for those interested, as well, although with so many ways to be immersed in nature, it’s unlikely you’ll find the need.

Ocean kayaking tours go up and down the coast, and even explore some of the sea caves that dot the rock faces. For those who want a tamer trip, canoe rentals are available at a few locations to let you explore the peaceful rivers at your own pace. Guided horseback tours can also be found, and for those who feel more comfortable on two wheels than on four legs, bicycle rentals are available nearby.

Wine Tasting

If taking a day to taste wine and explore one of the world’s most interesting wine-growing regions is your idea of ideal, then you have definitely come to the right place. Our guesthouse is less than an hour away from the heart of the Anderson Valley, a region reknowned for its amazing artisan wineries – and for its focus on organics without compromising quality.

Pinot Noir is the grape we’re best known for, but lovers of Zinfandel, Syrah, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petite Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon will find plenty here to fulfill them as well. And don’t shrug off some of our remarkable Rieslings, Gewurztraminers, and Sangioveses. The tasting rooms in the Anderson Valley are on the smaller side, staffed by energetic, informed pourers, and for the most part don’t even charge a tasting fee. Definitely a fun way to spend a day in the Valley.
